Other Important Information

Am I eligible?

Households with children in the Pittsburgh Public School District are eligible.

  • For Personal Income Taxes: Household income must be $57,000 or less
  • For FAFSA Application: All income levels are eligible for this service. However, if you are registering to complete the FAFSA application only, you must arrive at the site with copies of your completed 2009 Personal Income Taxes in order to do the FAFSA application.

Why should I attend?

Our trained counselors may be able to help you access tax benefits such as the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). Plus, our services are free. You’ll avoid paying tax preparation fees and interest payments on expensive “fast money” loans.

To qualify for Pittsburgh Promise scholarships, you must complete both your personal income taxes and the FAFSA application.

What services are offered?

Services offered are:

  • Personal Income Taxes only (Federal, State, Local)
  • Personal Income Taxes and the FAFSA application (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
  • FAFSA application only

How long will it take to complete my income taxes and FAFSA application?

Two-hours. You will need to be present for the entire length of your session.

With the help of a trained counselor, you will be filing your taxes and FAFSA application online using a computer and an IRS-certified software service called The Benefit Bank®.

Is childcare help available?

We are sorry. We cannot provide childcare services at these workshops. For the safety of you and your children, please do not bring children to these events.
